Pho 88 – Vietnamese Restaurant
On cold and rainy days Vietnamese food is the perfect food to feed the soul. Pho 88 is not a fancy restaurant but, they make Vietnamese pho, rice and vermicelli dishes consistently well whether you eat in or get take-out/delivery. Their prices are reasonable and their service is also good.
I have enjoyed several of their pho dishes and enjoy their Chicken Pho and the Flank and Beef Brisket Pho is my second go-to pho dish. I usually cannot drink a large bowl of pho/soup so I have not tried their large sizes but the small soup with a side dish is more than enough for me to be a filling meal. Don’t forget to get the Vietnamese spring rolls which are always good here. I think their best starter dish that I’ve tried is their Spring Rolls made with ground chicken inside. The Fried Spring Rolls were crispy but not extraordinary.
My favourite Vietnamese dishes are bun or vermicelli dishes. Grilled pork bun/vermicelli is probably the most popular/traditional choice but, beef and chicken are also good choices. The vermicelli is served with rice noodles, fresh vegetables and meat with a dipping sauce (main ingredients of dipping sauce usually include fish sauce, sugar and rice vinegar). I recommend adding the sauce and hoisin and chilli sauce or sriracha sauce to the vermicelli or pho dishes to add another flavour profile to them. The Grilled Beef and Grilled Chicken Vermicelli have never disappointed me at this restaurant.
This is one of the three Pho 88 locations in Toronto and so far the North York location has served me well.
