Authentic Mexican Tacos
I really like Mexican food. So, when a family member was visiting and made some tacos, I was very happy to be tasting his secret recipe all the way from Mexico.
These tacos were delicious, not surprising since the chef owns a Taquería in Mexico (taco shop). The red minced pork and chorizo filling was spicy and flavourful. Apparently it has a variety of different peppers and spices that give it the red colouring. The salsa verde made with green tomatoes, avocado, onions and jalapenos is just right for those who like it hot.
The other type of pork filling in the tacos was cooked in a pressure cooker until the pork was so tender and could be torn apart like pulled pork. The traditional topping for this taco was onion, cilantro and a splash of lime.
To cut the spice you eat cucumber with the tacos as well which cools your tongue from the hot jalapeno peppers.
The tortillas are warmed on a grill or pan before topping them with all the taco goodness. Muy bueno. I wish we had more authentic Mexican options in Toronto but, home made food is always the best. I guess I will need to go back to Mexico to taste these flavours again…
