Tosto Quickfire Pizza Pasta

I enjoyed catching up with a friend at Tosto Quickfire Pizza Pasta. It’s a warm, simple Italian restaurant where you can sit down and enjoy a good meal. This restaurant was in a small plaza and since it wasn’t the downtown location there is free parking available. This is not a full-service restaurant, so don’t expect a waiter or waitress to bring your order to you or drinks or clear your table if you dine in at this restaurant.

You order at the front of the restaurant and when it is ready your buzzer will go off and you need to pick up your meal at the counter. This may be a bit inconvenient for some but, if you want something fresh, made to order and fairly fast then this type of restaurant service may be for you and I can see it coming in handy if you come with a large group of friends or family and want a quick meal that isn’t fast food.

They do have some wine options, so you can enjoy a glass of wine with your favourite Italian dish at Tosto. My friend had recommended this restaurant and it had a good atmosphere and friendly staff. Even the manager came out to ask us how our meal was. We started with their antipasti, Salumi and it came with a selection of cured meats and cheese with crostinis. The antipasti tasted good and came on a wood serving board. A little more crostini bread may have been nice so, that you could have something to eat with the cured meats.

The calamari appetizer was flavourful. It was grilled well and came with arugula, capers, black olives, cherry tomatoes, parsley and ‘nduja aioli. Aioli is a sauce made of garlic and olive oil and I always enjoy a good aioli sauce because I love garlic.

The main dish that I tried was unique and a pasta dish I’ve never tried before. The Nero is made with squid-ink linguine, shrimp, sliced garlic, caper, basil leaf and salmon caviar. I am not usually a fan of capers but, it complimented the flavours of this Italian pasta dish well. The chef was new that evening and kudos to her for making a good pasta dish that was flavourful and balanced well with fresh ingredients on her first night.

I enjoyed Tosto and would go back to try their handcrafted pizzas that look just as tasty as some of the dishes we tried. So, if you’re in the mood for some Italian food you should check their restaurant out. They have 3 locations now in the GTA.
